ONPAR Math Test Overview

The ONPAR Math Items will reduce the language load of math test items without sacrificing content and cognitive complexity

WIDA created items and tasks to be accessible to beginning ELLs and that offer response options that allow them to demonstrate academic achievement--not in spite of linguistic challenges, but because linguistic challenges have been either eliminated or significantly reduced due to the proposed test's innovative web-based format. Items will feature:

  • Different types of interaction
  • Animation
  • Audio and roll-over translations as audio-visual aids
  • De-emphasization of multiple-choice items

This assessment were administered to elementary (grade 4) and middle (grade 7) school students including beginning ELLs, students with learning disabilities in reading, and other students that may be helped by accessiblle ONPAR items.

In 2007, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), on behalf of WIDA, received an Enhanced Assessment Grant to develop ONPAR-Mathematics.
