The ONPAR items are being developed to be equivalent to general multiple-choice and constructed-response math and science items, although different approaches are being used that more appropriately address the needs of the ELL population, while still measuring the same content and cognitive complexity targets.

In these examples the test taker uses Graphical Modeling (e.g., shading a portion of a geometric shape, drawing a line to represent trends in data, extending a bar graph) and Stimulus Manipulation (manipulate an image or an animation in the item stimulus) to indicate their response.
